A spheroid is also known as an ellipsoid. It is a sphere that is flattened at the poles. The shape of an ellipse is defined by two radii. The longer radius is called the semimajor axis, and the shorter radius is called the semiminor axis.
Examples of Spheroid
1. Planets
The shape of our home planet Earth is a prominent example of the spheroid-shaped objects present in nature. Also, a number of other planets are also spheroid in shape because they consist of flattened poles.
2. Soccer Ball
A flattened soccer ball and an American football form one of the perfect examples of the spheroid objects used in our daily life.
3. Fruits
Some of the fruits such as orange, melon, watermelon, etc., typically consist of a flattened top and bottom. Hence, they form a classic example of the spheroid shaped objects present around us.
4. Disco Light
Some of the disco lights are also shaped like a spheroid ball that consists of flat poles.
5. Snow Ball
Snowballs are not perfect spheres because they consist of flattened poles. Hence, they form a prominent example of spheroid shaped objects used in daily life.
